Terms of Service

Last updated: June 10, 2026

By using Booksum you agree to these terms. If you don't, please don't use the service.

Your account

You're responsible for everything that happens on your account. Keep your sign-in secure, don't share accounts, and don't impersonate anyone. One person, one account.

Acceptable use

  • No harassment, hate speech, threats, or doxxing.
  • No spam, scams, promo blasts, affiliate dumps, or sockpuppet voting.
  • No scraping our APIs, no automated mass-rating, no rate-limit evasion.
  • No content that infringes copyright, violates privacy, or breaks the law.
  • No attempts to manipulate the Reader's Choice voting, ratings, or AI chats.

Your content

You own the comments, ratings, nominations, and chats you create. By posting, you grant Booksum a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, display, and share that content inside the product (including on shareable summary pages and OG share cards). You can delete your content at any time.

Ratings, votes & community

One rating per book per user. You can change it any time. Public averages are computed from valid ratings; we reserve the right to ignore ratings we believe are abusive or inauthentic. The same goes for nominations and voting.

AI summaries & chats

The "Booksum take" and per-book AI chat are generated by large language models. They're best-effort, can be wrong, and don't replace reading the actual book or professional advice. Don't rely on them for medical, legal, or financial decisions.

Book metadata & third-party content

Book metadata and covers come from third-party catalogs (Google Books, Open Library). Community discussions surfaced from Reddit and Hacker News belong to their original authors and platforms — we display links and excerpts under fair-use principles.

Notifications

By enabling email or push notifications you consent to receiving messages tied to your account activity (replies, voting updates). You can opt out per channel and per category from Settings at any time.

Termination

We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or harm the community. You can stop using Booksum and delete your account from Settings at any time.

Disclaimers

Booksum is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we aren't liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service.

Changes

We may update these terms; the "Last updated" date above will change. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
